Adventure Week: Outdoor Experience

My class had an outdoor week at the end of the year. There were a lot of activities to do and you got to choose them.

My favourite part of the week was when I did ice skating. It was my first time ice skating so I was really scared but I had a lot of friends who had been ice skating before. Out of the whole group of people from our school that went, I had the biggest feet. When we finally got on the ice I held close on the railing that went around the whole ring. A few times around the ring I let go of the railing and only used it to keep me steady. My friend Aaliya who has been ice skating scene she was four years old, helped me out most of the time. We had a break and Aaliya brought a coke and we shared it. I only fell over once but it was right next to the railing so I only fell on one knee. When we were about to leave Sharon let us go around one more time. At the end my friend Bluebell fell over and it looked really painful. Then we left and went back to school and I made a word find.

How I Fitted In At the Start Of The Year

Well at the start of the year I was kind of scared and shy but throughout the year I started to open up. Getting used to the class was hard at first with all these new people that I don’t know but then I started to pretty cozy. Working in such I load class can be overwhelming sometimes but I got used to all of the noise. There have been ups and downs through the year and I think that all of that has really helped me improve in how I can make things better. At the start of the year it was kind of confusing and now when I walk in class I know exactly how the day goes.

How Tech Has Been This Year

Tech has been a really fun activity this year. Learning, making, doing new things has been so fun with all of the teachers at tech. I have learnt how to sew and how to hammer a nail, which are just a few things I never thought I would be doing because I really thought that sewing were just for boring people but it's actually really fun. I had lots of laughs with my friends and most of that was definitely in cooking. It was probably because im clumsy and always make a mess. But I'm actually really good at cooking. It was very yummy cooking.

Curricular Activities I've Done This Year

I’ve only done two curricular activities this year. The first one is band, which I do every Tuesday at 2:00pm. Band has improved my singing a lot and made me sing things that I wouldn't normally do. I think that doing band has really helped me boost up my confidence. I also did choir for the 80th music festival. To be honest I didn't really enjoy it, all of the girls in the group were out of tune and couldn’t sing the high notes. Not to mention that they totally disrespected me all the time but I have to say the performance was amazing and turned at great.

Dance

Dance

Dance 1- Flamenco From Spain

Flamenco is a famous dance form that originated in Spain. Jaleo (dance) is accompanied by tongue (guitar playing), cante (singing), pitos (finger snapping), and palmas (hand clapping). Flamenco is closely linked to the Romani people in Spain, and its style is distinctly Andalusian. The art form is currently taught in many countries worldwide but is most popular in the US and Japan. In the latter country, Flamenco schools outnumber those in Spain.

The art form developed over several centuries from Gypsy, Moorish, Andalusian, and other roots. Flamenco music and dance became popular in the early 19th century as café entertainment. The baile grande, especially, is believed to retain elements of the dance of India, where the Gypsies originated.

Dance 2- Latin Dance From Mexico

Latin dance originated in the traditional dances of indigenous cultures of Mexico, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Like many cultures around the world, dance was essential in communal ritual life. They were performed during rituals and festivals as a symbolic representation of cultural beliefs.

Latin dance is a general label, and a term in partner dance competition jargon. It refers to types of ballroom dance and folk dance that (with few exceptions) originated in Latin America. The category of Latin dances in the international dancesport competitions consists of the cha-cha-cha, rumba, samba, paso doble, and also the jive of United States origin.

Dance 3- Samba From Brazil.

Samba is a style of dance and music from Brazil. It developed from a complex mix of influences including West African slaves brought to Bahia, a region in Brazil, by Portuguese traders. The dance and drumming customs of these enslaved people eventually developed into samba. Through the 17th and 18th centuries, the music and dance survived in private celebrations held by slaves and former slaves in Bahia. In the mid-19th century, Brazil abolished slavery and descendants of the slaves moved south to Rio de Janeiro. They settled in the favelas, or poorer neighborhoods on the hills surrounding the city. They continued dancing to percussive music and developed samba out of a mix of styles, including Brazilian maxixe, a dance similar to tango. In 1914, the first phonograph recording of samba music brought wider recognition, and samba grew in popularity.

My Highlight Of This Year

The ballet has been one of my highlights of this year. A group of us went to Hansel and gretel, ballet and it was amazing! It was my most favourite part of the year. At the start when they were introducing the characters, the sandman comes on stage and throws glitter up in the air and Bluebell and I say at the exact same time “HE’S MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER!” The people there said we could cheer and shout at anytime. So everytime the sandman came on stage Bluebell and I would clap really loud and shout his name and everyone around us kept staring at us, except for the rest of the class they already were used to our weirdness. At the end of the show when we were on the drive back to school we saw the dancers from the show outside walking and we waved to them and they waved back.

Novel Study

In this blog I will be talking about what I've been doing for literacy this term, which is a novel study. For the novel study I did Shadowhunters The Mortal Instruments City Of Bones. Doing this novel study I learned more about the book and what the author is trying to achieve in the book. Is the author trying to entertain you, persuade you, or inform you? In my case it was entertain. The book got me excited with all the action and fantasy. Everytime the characters hit one another with a sword, my heart beat would go faster. The story was interesting and outgoing, you could say and I loved that about the book. The fact that all these different people who were all so close can turn on each other so quickly, it made think hard about what life would be like if it was like the Shadow world. I think that's really intrigued me the most, or maybe it was all the magic and life (Or death) that the book gave me.

Now let's talk about the main character: Clary. I thought that Clary was a very brave for a girl who was just introduced to a world of shadows and death. She is very sweet and kind to everyone around her. But at times she can be a little selfish but that's understandable, considering what's she's gone through. I thought we the author was writing about this character, she was trying to have a good female lead who doesn’t always need to be saved. In the book Clary really fought back when someone told her that she couldn’t fight or go on a mission, which I really liked.

GIRL EATS HER BEST FRIEND!!!

By Makenzie Evans and The Mackey News

On Friday the 10th of May Bluebell Barr ate her best friend Sophie Bangma.

At 11:37 Barr and Bangma were just enjoying a nice bike ride in Fox Forest. Then they stopped for a rest at a nice picnic table and have some food. But when Barr checked her bag for the food she notices there is no food!

Barr got so hungry that she knocked Bangma out with a rock and ate her raw.

Barr is now in jail for her crime. So Moral of the story is, don’t eat your friends or anyone for that matter.

Who Would Win A Fight In Jello?: A Polar Bear Or A Great White Shark?

Who Would Win A Fight In Jello?: A Polar Bear Or A Great White Shark?

Have you ever thought about if a polar bear and a great white shark had a fight in jello and who would win? Well I have and I have some background to help my topic.

Well great white sharks can’t live without water. And it really depends on how long the fight will go on for, let's say about two hours, because it's probably going to be a big thing of jello and it night take a long time for each of them to get close to one another. Because sharks need more food then bears. But then again it would be really hard for sharks to move around but for bears it might be a bit easier.

It will be really hard for the bear and shark to get used to a new environment. The bear could easily use its claws to move through the jello. But sharks could maybe use its teeth to bite through the jello but maybe it won't like the jello and spit it out and it could go all over its face!

So with all of these facts I really think that the polar bear would win.

So in this argument I'm going to talk about the topic and some evidence supporting my topic and some links to the example to the topic and how the topic links to the thesis.

I think that the bear could get over to the shark using its claws and digging through the sharks skin with its claws. And the shark wouldn't be able to move or attack. And sure you might be thinking

“Wait cant the shark just bit through the jello?”

Well yes but it's a different type of food that they are not used to and they might choke on the jello is well.

So in this fight it would probably go on for two hours tops, because it would take quite a while to get around. And sharks can only live six weeks without food but polar bears can live up to eight months without food so they both could be able to survive with our food but could they survive each other? Sharks are really sharp teeth and could easily kill a polar bear, But not in jello. Polar bears can swim constantly for days but in jello? It might be a bit harder than swimming in water.

I think with all of these facts a Great White Shark would have a 30% chance of winning, and a Polar Bear would probably have a solid 70% chance.

So I think the polar bear would win.

Polygons

Polygons

There are two ways to tell what a polygon is the first that, polygons only have straight lines. So as you see the square has straight lines, therefore it is a polygon. But the circle has no straight lines, so it is not a polygon.

The second is that there is a difference between Irregular polygons and Regular polygons.

Irregular polygons have different lengths and Regular polygons has identical sides.

So in this picture the Triangle is a regular polygon because of its identical sides and the other shape is an irregular polygon because it has different lengths.

    Strengths Explorers

A couple weeks ago I did strengths explorers. Which is about using your personality strengths. And this is how I did it.

So I first started off with doing a test to see what strengths I get. And I got, future thinker, caring and Dependability. After that we had to look at what all of our strengths mean. Then we think of different scenarios that our strengths would be helpful in and scenarios our strengths would be helpful in. After all of that we have to go around the room and on some tables are the different strengths on them and we had to go around put on our strengths what being that strength is.

    Perimeter

    What a perimeter is:

A perimeter is the distance around a shape. And the perimeter around the shape can be cm, in or mi. Now there are many ways to go the distance around the shape but a perimeter is the shortest distance around the shape. So the shortest distance around the shape would be right around the shape

    Careers

In school for my inquiry I have been doing careers, and last Wednesday we did our career expo.

For my career I did acting and I made a little information sheet.

I also made some character cards, which is a little acting game where you randomly take a card and on that card will be a character that you will have to act out, and the other people playing will have to guess what your doing. But you can talk. At the careers expo I had my friend Bluebell help me, she also helped me with making the character cards.

    Area

Area of a square = Length x Width.  8cmx10cm=80cm 5cmx4cm=20cm.                                              Area of a triangle = Half Length x WidthThen half the 20cm which would be 10.cm

I had the opportunity to go the engineering workshop at Air New Zealand with a small group from my class who wanted to come. We were there from lunch to the end of the day.

When we got there we had to wear a neon helmet and jacket so the people working there knew we were visitors.

The guy who showed us around told us about the time table there and the different stations.

We got to look at the engines and we got to go in one of the new planes that have only been open for two months.

When we were about to leave we got some lollies and stickers and we thanked him for showing us around.

To be honest I felt a bit isolated because I was the only girl in the group and I had no one to talk to. But overall I enjoyed it and learned a lot of news things.

                                                                              Bambi

Bambi is a roe deer, his small hooves make a clicking noise as he walks on the warm ground. His light brown fur and white spots on his back shines in the sunlight. It's hard for him to stand straight or walk right with his skinny long twig like legs. His light brown and black tips on his ears move as fast as lightning whenever there is a noise. His eyes are a dark brown like chocolate. His nose is pitch black like the night sky.

He likes to eat plants, fruits, acorns and nuts when are available. In winter they eat whatever food they can find like, twigs, bushes, fallen leaves and other woody plants.

Bambi lives in the European forest. But roe deer live in the North American wilds. He and his mother used to live in a little barrow until his mother was shot by a hunter in the meadow.

I sit in the middle of my class in my morning, and my best friend walks in. I ran up to her as she tells me how terrible her day is going. I try my best to comfort her the best I can. She keeps going on and on and I just sit and listen and try to make her laugh. She gets better during the day and now she’s back to herself.😁
